The Level I CARE Training, Excel CARE Fundamentals class is designed for the technician or engineer who requires a working knowledge of Honeywell Inc.'s EXCEL 5000 System software program Excel CARE (Computer Aided Regulation Engineering). Excel CARE is used to configure databases for Honeywell Inc.'s EXCEL 5000 System family of controllers (Excel 600, Excel 500, Excel 100, Excel 80, Excel 50, etc.).
What you will learn:
Defining and creating a Project, Plant and Controller. |
The Schematic portion of Excel CARE, which is used to create and modify hardware points. |
The Control Strategy portion of Excel CARE, which is used to create control loops that will perform the control functions (DDC programming) needed to properly control an airhandler, boiler, etc. Included will be functions of the most commonly used Control Icons; PIDs, switches, math, sequencing, etc. |
The Switching Logic portion of Excel CARE, which is used to create tables that will command analog or digital points (hardware or software) under defined conditions, such as turning on the return fan 15 seconds after starting the supply fan, or closing the outside air damper when the supply fan shuts off. Included is a discussion on the different types of time delays.
Global Points and Common Points in their various configurations will be covered. |
The Controller Editors portion of Excel CARE, which is used to create or modify Input / Output characteristics, Engineering Units (digital and analog), Alarm Text and Point Descriptors. Included will be creation of Default Files used to assign a common text file to multiple controllers. |
The Time Program Editor in Excel CARE, which is used to create Time Programs to control various controller functions. |
Live CARE, an EXCEL 5000 System software program used to test the completed Excel CARE database for proper operation. Live CARE can test the Excel CARE database in a simulation mode running in a PC, or in the B-Port mode, which allows the Excel CARE database to be tested after it is in the Controller. The database created as a lab project will be tested in a structured lab procedure that will show all of the functions available in Live CARE.
Downloading the completed database to an Excel 5000 family controller.
Uploading the controller database from the controller and moving it back into Excel CARE to update the Excel CARE database. |
Who Needs Level I CARE Training?:
The Level I CARE Training, Excel CARE Fundamentals class is designed for people who need to learn to configure Excel CARE databases but have limited experience with the program. No experience with Excel CARE is required to attend the class, however it is suggested that the student have a working (not necessarily extensive) knowledge of using a personal computer, and a working knowledge of HVAC and control strategies.
